An air horn is a type of device that is designed to produce a lot of noise through air mechanisms. Air horns are designed to use compressed air that is then passed through a horn and in return provides a very loud sound. Few air horns are also called bear horns which are specially designed to use on bears.

I found a few other examples of wildlife mangers suggesting that air horns are an effective deterrent to aggressive bears as well.

09/11/2011 ÿú It seems that the idea of using air horns as a bear deterrent has actually gained some traction since I last visited this topic. However, I couldn?t find anything definitive. In other words, I couldn?t find any studies that have actually been conducted on black bears or grizzly bears to determine the effectiveness of air horns as a deterrent.

Air horns are a reasonably effective deterrent against bears, as they and many other animals are liable to be startled by such a loud and piercing sound. However, they do not give the bear much in the way of a serious incentive to stop their behavior compared to something like bear spray, and it is likely that bears exposed to similar loud noises, like car horns, will be less affected by them.

24/11/2016 ÿú Tried putting an air horn on my feeder pole to scare the bear away. All it did was teach the bear not to mess with the bait jug anymore. It still kept coming.
